The conservative tea party movement is tired of being labelled as a racist movement. Well, I wouldn't like it either. But they have to take some responsibility, after all those signs were not made my liberals, they were made by hate filled tea party protesters.
They don't want to be called dumb. They would definitely be opposed to this cartoon:

After all, it is a myth that tea party protesters are illiterate racists. Take a look at some of these signs and decide for yourself.

I'm not claiming that all conservatives are on board with the tea party and I've got beef with the whole movement for many other valid reasons. However, it should be noted that the tea party has aligned itself with the conservative right. The collateral effect is that many middle of the road conservatives may get the brunt of criticisms that are a result of the behavior and rhetoric of tea party radicals.
The reason that the progressive movement dismisses these radicals as hateful racists is not based on any liberal fantasy. It is based on the actions, words, and demonstrations of the party.
My advice for the protesters is this- If you don't want to be labelled a racist...
Don't be.

ReplyDeleteI bet if I dug hard enough I could find a "Progressive", "Liberal" or Democrat that has said racist things or has miss-spelled something. Just because there are some uneducated ignorant people in certain groups, doesn’t make the claims of that group invalid. It’s easier to point out the ignorance of a few, and I mean a FEW people in a group than to argue with the position of the whole. Ann, you seem like such an intelligent woman and your better than this. I bet you can make a better argument. I can say that the Democrats are bad because a very small minority is communists, but I don’t because I am prepared to argue against their vision as a whole, not the nut job minority’s idiotic rants.
